Though it might be the intricate teak exterior and antique doors that initially draws you into Vila Cini, it’s the silk products here that have made it a covetable destination for shopping in Chiang Mai. Established in 1997, the brand takes silk to greater heights with unique products reminiscent of Jim Thompson. From sumptuous cushions to shawls to slippers, the elegant, quality silk goods here are made with original colours and with special adaptations to the traditional ikat weaving method. The success of the boutique has allowed two more branches to open: one on Charoenkrung in Bangkok and one in the Kad Dhara Shopping Village in front of the Dhara Dhevi hotel in Chiang Mai. If silk isn’t what you are after, the shop is also stocked with antiques and other home accessories like traditional Burmese lacquerware bowls and hand painted and crafted terracotta elephant candle holders.
